Cambridge University Musical Society (CUMS) usually holds yearly Conducting, Concerto and Composition Competitions, something that is really important to us and integral in our usual season structure. Unfortunately, this year we are unable to hold the Concerto Competition as last year’s prizewinners haven’t had the opportunity to perform a concerto this year and we hope that they will next season. For some of you this would be the last year that you could apply for the competition so if you are graduating this year you will be able to take part in next year’s competition. We know that this does not make up for it being cancelled this year, but we hope that this will allow you the opportunity to apply (perhaps again) for a concerto with one of our orchestras.

The Composition Competition this year will also not be happening. This year we haven’t been able to perform works from previous winners of the competition so these will be included next year’s season. The Competition will be back in 2022 and is always open to students for 10 years after graduation.

We hope that we will be able to have a Conducting Competition at some point this year. We are currently assessing how and when this will take place and full details will be on the website soon.
